The hardware requirements for ERP systems depend on the system and options implemented. Existing servers and platforms should be evaluated against current and future capacity capable meeting your immediate and future needs. The hardware should meet the requirements of the software vendor. Technologies should be in place for remote access, web based applications and interaction with external systems or processes, clients and staff.
Typical requirements would be a server with sufficient resources to run a database and application. There should not be any other resource intensive applications on the same server. An example would be Exchange Server. Consideration may be given to the latest Virtual Machine technology, uptime requirements and backup systems. User worstations need to have the hardware and software resources to run the application or run virtual desktops off a virtual server.
Network topology must be considered to meet the speed requirements of the users as well as their printing requirements, remote support requirements and Internet access.
