Alex Angus - CEO
Alex Angus, founder of ALLTEK Systems cc, was born in
Bloemfontein and grew up on a farm in the northern OFS town of Lindley, also home town of
Danie Craven. He went to school in Lindley and Grey College in Bloemfontein, where he shared
hostels with Morne du Plessis.
Alex has a long history in computing. Starting as an apprentice with ICL in 1970 and completing
his National Technical Diploma - Electronics in 1973, he continued this career with Friden Business
Machines for 3 years. Friden was one of the first companies to modify an IBM typewriter into a
"Desktop Processor". This allowed invoices to be recorded directly onto Mylar tape or magnetic media
for input into the mainframe.
From 1975 to 1981 he followed a technical and sales career in scientific and medical equipment,
including Ultrasic Diagnostics and Nuclear Medicine, both driven by computerised systems. Alex
was responsible for the installation of the first fully computerised cancer treating Atomic
Linear Accelerator on the African continent. The installation at the Johannesburg Hospital
included two PDP minicomputers.
In 1981 Alex joined Protea Technology - Computer Division as a technician and was appointed
Divisional Director after 3 years, responsible for 5 support divisions, including CAD,
Scientific Equipment, Graphics Workstations, Software Support and the new PC division.
Alex also supported the accounting system on the company Prime mainframe.
After completing a PMD course at UCT Graduate School of Business in January 1987, Alex left
Protea to start his first business in importing and supplying PC's to the local industry.
Various software solutions were also supplied, including accounting systems and Financial
Productivity Management software.
In 1991 Alex changed over to Accpac as his preferred accounting solution. Through the years
Accpac has become a major part of his business. To this end ALLTEK Systems cc was established
in March 2000 and PDS Data and other companies were either closed down or consolidated into
the new company.
